Rethink “holiday giving”

The month of December is in full-swing. The first snow flakes of the season drift dreamily from the sky.  Christmas classics entertain families and friends.  Holiday tunes sing in the background of every department store brimming with gifts. Light shows twinkle and delight.

With goodwill in the air, volunteerism and donations also pique during the holiday season. The salvation army, local shelters, and other non-profits are in need–and kudos to those who lend support.

However, non-profits and charities are in need of volunteers and donations all year round. There is never a shortage of families and organizations who can use your help.

The Volunteer Center of East Central Wisconsin helps to connect individuals to volunteer opportunities throughout the Fox Valley Region throughout the year. There are hundreds of opportunities: Bell Ringing, Adopt a Family, Habitat for Humanity, Fond du Lac Humane society, food pantries, youth clubs, hospitals, nursing homes, and much more.

Holiday goodwill is important. But how about rethinking “holiday giving”, and finding an organization or charity you can feel good about supporting year-round. By becoming involved on a regular basis, you will develop a deeper connection to the cause and contributions will feel more impactful.

My two cents 🙂
